Introduction of academic writing course
WHAT IS ENGLISH WRITING?
Language skill is divided into 4 smaller ones: writing, reading, listening and speaking while many think that there are 2 main groups: the producing/delivering skills (writing and speaking) and the withholding/taking skills (listening and reading).
However, they are so closely and deeply intertwined that some people believe it is impossible to practice each separately.
According to writing register, writing consists of informal and formal. You must pay much attention to the following questions to deicide how formal your writing should be.
Who are your readers? What is discussed in your writing? In addition, why do you write it?
According to writing purpose, we have business writing, private writing and academic writing.
Business writing: Contracts, cover letters, CV, recipes, bills, instructions,…
Private writing: Private letters, notes, memos, SMS…
Academic writing: writings in academic environments. The readers are professors; teachers and writers are students, learners.
WHAT IS A GOOD WRITING?
It is difficult to say about this matter. Providing that you come up to your purpose of writing, you have a good writing. If you write academically, you should look over these points:
- Right register
- Grammatical correction
- Right words
- Right spelling and punctuations
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO TO BETTER YOUR WRITING SKILL?
As all considered, your writing will be good if you are good at Vocabulary, Grammar, and expressing your ideas. Writing is mainly a skill, so you have to practice writing as much as possible. You should try to work hard to have 3 drafts before handing in your final writing.
As far as I know, weakness in presenting the ideas is the most popular shortcomings among Vietnamese English learners. So you need understand your weakness to focus on properly.
HOW TO DEAL WITH IELTS WRITING SUB-TEST
TASK 1 (20 minutes)
You will find it easier to deal with the task because it is shorter and you do not have to find and arrange your ideas. This is simply to describe what you see in a coherent and clear way. As a result, it does not carry much weight in the band score.
TASK 2 ( 40 minutes)
You have to follow some serious principles of academic writing. Moreover, you have to find, sort out, arrange and support your ideas logically. If you don’t have good knowledge of academic writing ,you will never get the expected score even when you are at English advanced level.

chỉ có thế thôi sao? thế thì ai cũng nói được rồi cần chi phải vào đây nữa? tớ nghĩ ko chỉ luyện nói và nghe mà mặt khác cần phải tôi luyện bản thân, giống như việc tự tin với đối phương là được....
